I was a student at ITECH (promotion 95). The education I received during my two years there, was of high quality and allowed me to maintain a high standard of work and to be valued by my managers.
I got my first job with Rhodia where I had done my ITECH training period. The knowledge acquired during my two years at ITECH allowed me to make a good impression and following this training period, I was offered a position on their Manchester site.
But ITECH offered me much more than a good education: its reputation and alumni opened door for me when looking for new jobs. Even in the UK, where I spent most of my working life so far, the ITECH name was fairly well known in the paint industry. On several occasions during the recruitment process, I was given preference for being an ITECH qualified student.
I am now working in a global position within the Beckers-Group, and although hard work and opportunities are some big factors in reaching this level, I probably wouldn’t be where I am now without the network acquired through ITECH.
In 1995, during his last year of studies, Frédéric Faugeroux did not regret making the most of ITECH’s invitation to take part in technical nights organised regularly by the AFTPVA*. His participation during these evenings, and more generally his implication in professional associations, allowed him to build a network that has been of good use to him throughout his career.
Once he had graduated with his engineering degree in chemistry, he became in 1996 head of the Paint, Building and Civil Engineering department of a chemistry firm. In 1998, thanks to his “network”, he joined Air Products Chemical as Head of Sales in France, then in BASF France in 2001 as Head of Commercial Interactions of the Adhesives and Construction Industries department. Wishing to acquire an international experience “ before it was too late”, in 2006 he decided to live in Singapore with his family and taking over the responsibility of “Marketing for Pacific Asia region” within the Dispersants and Pigments division.
Being really interested by his managerial profil with an international aspect and specialist in paint and adhesive formulation, BASF Construction Chemicals France called him back in 2010 in order to entrust in him the responsibility of Construction Systems France specialised in products and diverse systems: adhesives, joint glues for tiles, tile products, repairing products, protection products, products for sealing, for reinforcing concrete structures…

In what consist your Professional career?
After receiving my ITECH engineering at the end of the 1970’s, I started my career within Renault’s African branch, then I worked in a bitumen manufacturer. I was recruited by Becker Industries in 1989 as Head of laboratory, then the group entrusted in me the responsibility of Coil Coating in 1998. I was designated General Manager in 2005 then CEO at the end of 2008.
How do you value your initial training in hindsight?
My training turned out to be well adapted to the needs of the companies which I worked in. I’m continuously noting the number of ITECH engineer that we take on for internships or that we recruit are quickly operational and know how to adapt to developments which change particularly quickly in our field.
L’ITECH educates you well, and even if you don’t continue in your field of studies (as I didn’t), the open mindedness that you would have acquired in this school will always be of use to you.
