Students from Outside the European Union

Make enquiries as early as possible, before January to be sure, by contacting your national Study in France Centre via: www.campusfrance.org

This is essential for your VISA application: some Study in France centres have a registration deadline, often around january.

Appliaction deadlines for foreign students

  • Submission of the application file with Study in France registration number: 30th April
  • Admission committee: May
  • Confirmation of admissibility : 31st May
  • Visa procedure with study in France center
  • Official approval by the admission committee: mid-July
  • Start of the academic year: mid-September

For all foreign nationals

French as a foreign language (Français Langue Etrangère - FLE) lessons: in collaboration with the other IPL schools, ITECH is able to provide FLE lessons: an intensive 3-5 day course at the start of term and 2 hours/week for the rest of term. Compulsory lessons, depending on your level of language skills on arrival.

Admission requirements

  • For the integrated preparatory lessons:  you must hold the equivalent of the scientific baccalauréat -highschool diploma (A level).
  • For the engineering course*: For holders of a Bachelor’s degree (in science, engineering or technology).

Generally speaking and based on your qualifications and experience :

  • For 3 years of study Bachelor (BSc) holders : enrolment on the 1st year of the engineering course (i.e. 3 years until graduation)
  • For 4 years of study Bachelor (BSc) holders: enrolment on the 2nd year of the engineering course (i.e. 2 years until graduation) 
  • For the BTS (higher technical training certificate): you must hold the equivalent of the scientific baccalauréat, highschool diploma (A level)
  • For the one year specialisation program (Bachelor's level) : you must hod the equivalent of 2 years scientific undergraduate study degree.
  • For the Specialised "mastère": Holders of a Masters Degree in Science (5 years of university study) or 4 years of study with at least 3 years of professional experience.

* Language skills required for admission to the engineering course:

French: Minimum French as a foreign language examination requirements - TCF (level 3) TEF (361 to 540- intermediate ), DELF (B1),  level B1 of the common European framework of reference for languages

English: minimum level required: B1 of the common European framework of reference for languages.

Accommodation:

ITECH does not have university halls of residence but you can rent a room in one of Lyon’s many university halls of residence (www.crous-lyon.fr)

The international relations service can assist you in finding a place to live.

You’ll have to pay somewhere between 230 € and 350 €/month for a room in university halls of residence and approximately 400 € for a studio flat. You can receive housing benefit (either the ALS or the APL) (see “aide au logement” (housing support) section on the CAF de Lyon website).

Running costs:

Minimum 300 and 400 € per month (public transport, food and drink…).

You also need to register with the student social security service and take out compulsory minimum health insurance: approx. 200 €/year

Supplementary and mutual insurance: between 7 and 35 €/month

Compulsory house and legal liability insurance: 30 €/year  

This all adds up to a minimum budget of approximately 500€/month, though you have to allow around 1000€ for the first month.
