One Year specialisation program (Bachelors Level)

Course structure

The "Application to chemical formulation" course is split into 5 options: adhesives, chemistry applied to leather, cosmetics, colour, paints inks or adhesives. 
It can be completed:

  • as full time training
  • as a apprenticeship contract (co-op program) – professional training certificate or continuing education.

Course length: from 9 to 10 months, including a 3-month company placement.

  • Course accredited by the CPNE (Joint Committee for Employment in the Chemical Industries)

Admission

Admission based on academic record of a  2-year scientific degree, DUT (university diploma in technology) or BTS (technical vocational training certificate) graduates.

Tuition fees

Tuition fees for the 2008-2009 academic year are 3,800 €/year.

Options:

  • Adhesives

    The aim is to train specialists in the formulation and uses of adhesives for the raw material industries, adhesive manufacturers and users.

    • Courses/Syllabus: Raw materials. Surfaces and interfaces. Theory of adhesion. Formulation. Adhesives manufacturing technology .Application technology.  Physical chemistry applied to adhesives. Glued joint design. Health, safety and the environment. Control of adhesives.

       

    • Practical work: Formulation. Manufacturing. Applications and controls of the principal glues and adhesives.
  • Chemistry applied to leather

    The aim is to train specialists for the leather industry in how to convert raw hide into finished leathers for the use of footwear, leather goods or furnishing industries.

    • Courses/ Syllabus:   Hide processing Chemistry. Hide processing technology. Microbiology and raw materials. Health, safety and the environment. Colorimetry.
    • Practicals: Laboratory, analysis and control. Manufacturing of principal media, leather… Finishing techniques. Colorimetry.
  • Cosmetics

    The aim is to train specialists in colour cosmetics for the relevant industries (raw material suppliers and cosmetics manufacturers).

    • Courses/syllabus : Raw materials. Physical chemistry of emulsions. Process and rheology. Colorimetry. Microbiology. Biochemistry of the skin. Health, safety and environment.
    • Practicals: Formulation, manufacture and control of cosmetics. Colorimetry.
  • Colour

    The aim is to train specialists in the applications of colour and colorimetry: quality control, formulation & correction, research & development, manufacturing, technical assistance.

    • Courses/syllabus : Colorimetry. The different industries that use colour and their distinctive characteristics. Physical chemistry. Health, safety and the environment.
    • Practicals: Colorimetry: blending by eye, knowledge and use of colormatching sofwares, formulation and computer-aided colour correction. Applications within the user industries.
  • Paints and inks

    The aim is to train specialists in the formulation of paints and inks for the raw material industries, manufacturers of paints and inks and users (industry, construction and anti-corrosion)

    • Courses/syllabus : Raw materials. Physical chemistry applied to paints and inks. Paint and ink manufacturing technology. Surfaces and interfaces. Colorimetry. Theory of formulation. Ink printing technology. Health, safety and the environment.
    • Practicals: Manufacturing process . Applications and control of paint. Color matching control and application.

Employment

Employment opportunities are mainly in technical areas : research & development laboratories – measurement & control laboratories – production, or in technical sales or customer service.

The Institute has a 1st job service that serves a triple purpose:

  • information, advice and follow-up of employment-related procedures with recently graduated up to the signtature of his/her employment contract,
  • employment-related information, promotion, support in collaboration with recruitment agencies and industrialists,
  • promotion and partnership schemes with institutions (APEC...).
